The mountain air has a slight chill in the morning, meaning autumn is right around the corner! Did you know you can still plant vegetable seeds in the Fall?
We asked our Greenhouse Manager, Julia Bailey, to give us some insights and tips on gardening during this time.
What's The Secret Behind The Seeds?
At the Mustard Seed Market we focus on high-quality, organic gardening at cost-effective prices. Our goal is to ensure you have plentiful information and success when sowing seeds. All of our seeds are USA made and follow the 'Safe Seed Pledge' which states "...we do not knowingly buy, sell, or trade genetically-engineered seeds or plants." Our seeds are also tested by the Non-GMO Verified Project which looks for genetically engineered (GMO) contamination in seeds that can occur when plants cross-pollinate. All of these aspects added together ensure the health and wellness of your garden with the best attempt at producing successful end result.
Why Garden In The Fall?
There are many different perks to gardening in the fall. Watering isn't as frequent in the fall because the air temperature is much cooler whereas the summer heat tends to dry out plants quicker. Fall also has less pest pressure and plants in the ground keep the soil alive and healthy with organic organisms instead of having bare ground in your yard.
When Should I Plant My Fall Seeds?
Start end of August, early September. Average first first date in the high country is October 8th so it is important to have your fall planting well established before the first frost of the season.Cool season crops can handle light frost if they are well established in the ground. You can also cover them with frost both or a sheet for the harder frosts as the season progresses.
What Are Some 'Cool Season' Veggie Seeds/Starters?

Are There Flowers To Plant As Well?
You can also plant flowers in the Fall for fresh, Spring blooms. Bulbs and flowering seeds such as Poppies and Alliums prefer to go through the natural freeze and thaw cycles to germinate properly.
When Will These Be Available?
